The Massachusetts Fleece Show Rules and Regulations

 

NEW – BY FAIRGOER REQUEST –

  1. Whole Fleeces of Mohair, Alpaca & Llama may be placed for sale, no competition.
    1. 10% commission applies; no sale entry fee. In order to enter these fiber types for sale please email fleecesales.mswf@gmail.com directly or just bring these varieties of fleeces to drop off. Mohair, alpaca & llama fleeces cannot be entered via the website link at this time.
  2. Sheep Wool Fleece may be entered into competition & placed for sale or entered into competition only.
  3. Fleeces must have been shorn in the last 12 months.
  4. Fleeces must be unwashed, clean and well-skirted and placed in clear plastic bags, one fleece per bag. Unskirted, dirty or inferior fleeces will be disqualified.
  5. Each fleece should be tagged with a 3” x 5” card folded in half.
    1. On the outside of the card, list: class, sheep breed (if known), sale price per pound (if fleece is for sale).
    2. The inside of the card should list exhibitor/seller’s name, address, phone number and email address if desired.
  6. The limit per farm/producer is 8 sheep fleeces total. There is no per-class limit. Alpaca, mohair, or llama fleeces do not count towards this limit.
  7. Entry fees are $3 per fleece; late entries are $6 per fleece.
  8. Deadline for entries is May 15
  9. Late fees apply to online entries, mail in entries and entries submitted at drop off.
  10. Please pre-enter fleeces using the online form (link below) or by printing and filling out a general entry blank (link below) and mailing it by May 15th to the address on the form, along with check for payment in full.
  11. Drop off fleeces at the Exhibit Hall between 7:00 – 9:00 pm Friday evening or 7:30 – 9:00 am Saturday morning.
  12. The Massachusetts Sheep and Woolcraft Fair will act as a broker for all sheep wool fleece sales and a 10% commission will be collected by the fair at the time of sale.
  13. Premiums are paid on a point basis to Massachusetts residents and out-of-state exhibitors as funds become available.
  14. Fleeces in competition only and not for sale must remain on display until Sunday at 3:00 pm.
  15. Any unsold fleeces must be picked up by the producer between 3:00 – 4:00 pm on Sunday.

MSWF is not responsible for unclaimed fleeces.

As you know, fleece drop off is very hectic. Please pre-enter your fleeces to save time and confusion at drop off. 

If you are entering your fleeces at, drop off, late entry fees apply and may be paid by check or in exact change only. We will have a scale at drop off to weigh fleeces.

Judging will begin at 9:30am Saturday and end at approximately 1:00 pm, with ribbons awarded to three places. During this time the fleece barn will be closed to the general public for the judging. Trophies will be awarded for the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion fleeces.

The sale will begin when Judging has ended or 1:00 pm (whichever is later) continuing through 5:00 pm Saturday and 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Sunday. A member of the Committee will be in charge of the sale during those times.

 Fleeces will be removed from the sale upon purchase. We will make every effort to remove & retain ribbons for producers as fleeces are sold. 

Checks will be mailed for the sale price as well as any premium money at a reasonable date after the fair.
